You may have received the Hearing Notice from the City of Fort Worth announcing that the City Plan Commission is having a hearing on Thursday, August 13, at 9 am, to vote on moving Old Weatherford Road, described as a Major Arterial – an approximately 120’ wide boulevard with four lanes divided by a median.
The proposed alignment destroys our meadow north of Mary's Ridge Road. THIS IS A BIG CHANGE.
The long-established plan has always been to expand Old Weatherford Road in its existing location and slightly towards the north into open pastures.
A hearing took place August 13. It was item 6 on the linked agenda.
Email and call:
Plan Commission platbox2@fortworthtexas.gov (817) 392-8072
Councilman Michael Crain District3@fortworthtexas.gov (817) 392-8803
Subject – Case Number: MT-26-001 Old Weatherford Road (Major Arterial): ETJ Parker County.
Tell the Commission and Councilman Crain:
The proposed route is far more expensive to build than a dozen other alternatives according to the project engineer.
Stop rushing through deals made behind closed doors. Many neighbors didn’t get notice of the hearing. More time is needed for feasibility/environmental studies and neighborhood feedback. The City spent two years gathering feedback on the Master Transportation Plan through 30+ district open houses, 20+ community events, and numerous community surveys. But this change is being proposed without the benefit of the same transparent process.
The proposed route endangers diverse wildlife and plant species in the delicate Mary’s Creek habitat.
Attend the Plan Commission hearing on Thursday, August 13, at 9 am in New City Hall Terrace Level City Council Work Session Conference Room – 100 Fort Worth Trail, Fort Worth, 71602, or watch online at https://www.youtube.com/user/CityofFortWorth

Save Mary’s Creek Update - August 14
We wanted to provide an update on the effort to oppose the proposed realignment of Old Weatherford Road which would adversely impact dozens of property owners and hundreds of residents. Thank you for engaging by sending emails, making calls, educating neighbors, and taking time to show up at Fort Worth City Hall yesterday! We are grateful for everyone’s efforts and thankful to be connecting with so many neighbors!
Here’s a recap of the week:
Saturday 8/8 - Engagement efforts to educate neighbors began. We visited with several of you on Mary’s Ridge and communicated with the property owners who live along Old Weatherford Road in the impacted area. Emails and phone calls to Councilman Crain and the City Plan Commission commenced.
On Monday and continuing up to the Thursday hearing – after many of you sent emails and made calls – Councilman Crain and City staff began communicating to residents, “I want you to know that I've had the Old Weatherford Road amendment withdrawn from City Plan Commission consideration. That means this item will not be up for discussion at tomorrow’s meeting...I made this request because I believe the community needs more time and opportunity to weigh in before any new alignment moves forward…” Ironically Councilman Crain discouraged the community from weighing in at their first opportunity.
Thursday 8/13 at 9am – The City Plan Commission held a hearing. Several neighbors showed up to speak. The Commission acknowledged the significant amount of correspondence they received opposing the proposed Old Weatherford Road relocation.
If you missed it, the portion of the Commission hearing regarding Old Weatherford Road starts here.
At the hearing, the Commission announced that the Old Weatherford Road portion had been withdrawn from the agenda and only the Walsh Ranch Parkway realignment was still on the agenda. Even though Councilman Crain discouraged people from attending the hearing, a city staffer was given the opportunity to give a defense of the Old Weatherford Road realignment.
Ahead of the hearing, city staff circulate to Commission members a Staff Information Report. (seen here: Old Weatherford Road Realignment Staff Report.pdf)
It contains several inaccuracies – “This adjustment will move the road…and avoid the creek as much as possible.” But the depiction shows that the road moves much closer to the creek! The report also alleges, “The adjustment will improve constructability and move the road out of sensitive floodplain areas.” This incorrect information raises more questions.
After hearing public testimony, one commissioner acknowledged that had the proposed alignment not been withdrawn, he would have voted no.
Open Records Requests – We submitted several open records requests and are awaiting the City’s response within ten business days, including requests for the Tri Party Agreement and the Development Agreement and communications between Councilman Crain and other parties. Additional requests will be made as we learn new information.
Attorney Retention – We are working to finalize legal representation and will keep the group posted.
Please let us know if you have any additional ideas or suggestions. Thanks again for joining together to oppose the backroom plan to relocate Old Weatherford Road. We have a long road in front of us!
